Native Cape began with three people who feel deeply connected to the landscape around Suurbraak—and want to help protect the life it holds.

These mountains, their flowers, birds and quieter, easily overlooked creatures are part of what makes this place home. Watching invasive plants spread across the slopes has brought a growing sense of urgency, and a desire to turn our concern into practical, lasting care.

Shaz, Russ and Nick bring experience in project management, business, media production and online content. We’re putting those skills towards building a local conservation initiative that can keep going, inviting others to take part and sharing what we learn along the way.

As we establish Native Cape, we’re seeking guidance from conservation practitioners and the relevant authorities to develop suitable methods, secure permissions and identify where our efforts can make a useful contribution.

Our hope is to see indigenous plants reclaim space, wildlife find shelter and food, and more people feel connected to the natural heritage on their doorstep.

We work with CapeNature and Swellendam Municipality for conservation guidance and coordination, helping us align our activities with local priorities and the requirements for each site.
